Key Takeaway

At Rancho Vista Senior Living, meaningful activities are about more than filling the calendar. Through her creativity, compassion, and dedication, Activities Assistant Emily Vargas helps residents stay connected, create lasting memories, and enjoy each day to the fullest.

Helping Residents Make the Most of Every Day

For families searching for senior living in Vista, a strong activities program can be an important part of choosing the right senior living community. Activities can be very beneficial for seniors, helping support physical health, executive functioning, and social and emotional well-being. Some examples include arts and crafts, exercise classes, group outings, and movie screenings.

At Rancho Vista Senior Living, we want to make sure our residents are engaged and have the same opportunities they would have anywhere else. Whether it’s trying something new or meeting new faces, we want to make sure our residents are enjoying their time here and, most importantly, having fun. Our community has so much to offer, and at the heart of our activities program are the employees working behind the scenes to bring it all to life.

One of those employees is Activities Assistant Emily Vargas, whose dedication to residents recently earned her the honor of Employee of the Month for June 2026.

Meet Emily Vargas, Activities Assistant

Emily is the Activities Assistant at Rancho Vista Senior Living and helps keep the activities program up and running. As the Activities Assistant, she plans and leads a variety of activities designed to encourage participation, social connection, and fun. She strives to come up with activities that are enjoyable for residents and help promote social engagement.

Emily walked us through what a typical day looks like:

“A typical day starts with morning exercise, followed by brain games and engaging activities. After lunch, we may enjoy an afternoon walk, a lively game of Uno, or a presentation from a guest speaker. Of course, we always look forward to ending the day with one of our residents’ favorite activities: bingo!”

From bingo to brain games, every day brings something new. Residents have the opportunity to experience activities and visit places they may not have otherwise. Helping create those lasting memories is one of the things Emily enjoys most about her role.

Finding Joy in the Little Moments

What initially inspired Emily to work in the senior living industry was her passion for helping others. She finds value in creating meaningful experiences and connecting with residents one-on-one. Emily highlights one of the most rewarding parts of her job as seeing how much joy can come from even the little moments.

“Seeing a smile on their faces or hearing them laugh is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

Rancho Vista Senior Living offers residents lots of memorable moments they can look back on and cherish. One particular memory that stood out to Emily was a game of charades one Thanksgiving.

“We spent the entire game laughing nonstop as everyone enthusiastically acted out their clues.”

Moments like these are a reminder that some of the best memories come from simply spending time together and enjoying each other’s company.

A Team That Feels Like Family

The team at Rancho Vista Senior Living also plays a key role in creating an atmosphere where residents feel at home. Team members like Emily spend a lot of time with residents and really get to know each person’s likes, hobbies, and interests. From what they like to have for breakfast to their favorite board game, understanding residents’ preferences is an important part of creating a positive culture and providing the best senior living experience.

When asked what the culture is like at Rancho Vista Senior Living, Emily described it as a very close-knit community:

“Staff, residents, and family members know each other by name, creating a welcoming environment that truly feels like home.”

She added that staff are always warm and friendly, greeting residents by name and being willing to help.

“Whenever someone needs help, there is always a team member willing to lend a hand. As you walk through our community, you’ll find smiling faces and warm greetings from staff throughout the building.”

A friendly staff can make all the difference. At Rancho Vista Senior Living, we encourage meaningful connections between staff, residents, and families. Our goal is to create a warm, welcoming community that feels like home for everyone who walks through our doors.

Getting to Know Emily Outside of Work

For Emily, the best part of being a member of the Rancho Vista team is the impact she makes on the lives of residents every day.

“The most rewarding part of being on this team is going home each day knowing that I helped make someone else’s day a little brighter. I genuinely enjoy what I do and have fun at work every day, which is something not everyone gets to experience.”

Outside of work, Emily enjoys reading a good book, going to the movies, and attending concerts whenever she has the chance.
